Joint Pain: Elbows, Shoulders, Knees, Hips and Other Joints
How a Chiropractor can Relieve Joint Pain
Chiropractors are experts in assessing and treating nerve, muscle and skeletal injuries and joint pain, wherever they may be. Therefore, chiropractic care helps to correct problems within most joints in the body, not just the spine.
Chiropractic care helps you find relief from carpal tunnel syndrome, rotator cuff injuries, tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow, arthritis of the knees, hips and other joints, ITB syndrome etc. A chiropractor helps by addressing the alignment of the joint and spine, by relieving tension in the surrounding muscles, and by soft tissue work on fascia, tendons, ligaments and muscles.

Medications for Joint Pain
NSAIDs, Cox-2 inhibitors and Acetaminophen(Tylenol) are the drugs that are usually prescribed for joint pain. These are the same medications often prescribed for back pain and come with the same potential side effects of stomach ulcers, heart attacks/strokes and liver damage.
Other Alternative Medicine Treatments for Joint Pain
Nutritional supplements
Certain nutrients help as natural anti-inflammatories, such as fish oil, and natural muscle relaxants, such as magnesium. Not just any old fish oil will do though, you need fish oil that is pure, fresh and readily absorbed. You don’t want to be taking rancid, polluted fish oil. Our Naturopathic Doctors can help you select a good quality fish oil.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture has been used for thousands of years to relieve pain. It encourages the production of natural anti-inflammatories in your brain and helps to stimulate your immune system to speed healing.
Registered Massage Therapy
Massage therapy helps to relax your muscles that may be causing the joints to move improperly, contributing to pain.
Herbal Remedies
Herbal medicines act as natural anti-inflammatories without the negative side effects on the digestive tract caused by NSAIDs. Curcumin and Boswellia work well but need to be good quality to be properly absorbed. Our naturopathic doctors can help choose the right product and the right dosage.
