The Safe Way to Manage Pain in Pregnancy
With the joys of pregnancy come all sorts of new aches and pains. Headaches, neck pain, mid back pain, low back pain, sciatica, just to name a few. For years now we have been advised that if we need a painkiller, acetaminophen (Tylenol) is a safe choice. But recent research is showing that this may not actually be the case. Studies are showing an increased risk of ADHD and other behavioral problems in our children if we reach for acetaminophen while pregnant. There is no known risk of birth defects associated with acetaminophen use. But there may be a change in the hormones that are responsible for brain development with acetaminophen use. The study published in JAMA Paediatrics suggests that prenatal use of acetaminophen may as much as double the risk for these behavioural disorders.

Nutritional supplements: Certain nutrients can help as natural anti-inflammatories, such as fish oil, and natural muscle relaxants, such as magnesium. Supplementation should only be done under the supervision of a licensed naturopathic doctor.
