What is Homeopathy?

Homeopathy is a system of holistic medicine that was founded in Germany by Dr. Samuel Hahnemann (1755-1843). Homeopathic Medicine is based on the Law of Similars, "Like Cures Like", this means that a substance that could cause specific symptoms if ingested or exposed to in larger amounts, can be made into a homeopathic preparation and used to cure those symptoms.   For example if someone had an itchy, red blistery rash like that caused by poison ivy, homeopathic (diluted) poison ivy, called Rhus tox, can help heal the rash.

What are Homeopathic Remedies?
Homeopathy makes use of highly diluted preparations of plant, mineral or animal substances.  These homeopathic dilutions are used to stimulate the body to heal itself rather than just mask symptoms. Because they are so highly diluted, they are safe to use with babies, children, adults, during pregnancy, in elderly patients and in conjunction with other medications.

As with all natural medicines we encourage you to seek professional advice. There are typically hundreds of remedies that could be used to treat any condition and use of the improper remedy can cause new symptoms.

A few examples of homeopathic remedies:

Nux Vomica - Nux people are often workaholics, intolerant of criticism but highly critical of others. They have a tendency to overindulge, not only in food but alcohol, cigarettes, coffee and in some cases drugs. They tend to be prone to gastric upsets, are chilly, yet sweat easily. They are very sensitive to noise, draughts and smells and are worse for cold, dry weather.
Nat Mur - Is used in the treatment of cold and watery conditions such as a running nose, dryness of mouth, malaria, sunstroke, shingles, fever blisters, insect stings as well as teething with salivation.
Sepia - Sepia people characteristically have weakness and lack of tone, in the whole system, a yellowish complexion, sunken dark-ringed eyes, relief from strong exertion, due probably to the toning up of the venous system by such, and the amelioration in the middle of the day.
