Benefits of Chiropractic care for
Seniors:
1. Pain Relief
For over 100 years chiropractors have
been helping their patients recover from back pain, neck
pain, hip pain, knee pain and much more. Pain
reduction means that people get back to their activities
of daily living.
2. Decreased Joint
Degeneration/Arthritis
As we age we undergo normal wear and
tear, which over time can lead to degeneration of the
joints in the body. Degeneration of a joint can lead to
misalignment of that joint. When a joint is not properly
aligned even normal motion puts it at risk for further
wear and tear. It becomes a continuing cycle of
degeneration. Through adjustments, mobilization,
stretches and exercises chiropractic works to properly
align the joints in the body, keeping them healthier
longer.
3. Increased Mobility and Range of
Motion in joints
Scientific studies and case studies have
shown that chiropractic care can help to improve the
restricted mobility and range of motion in the elderly.
This enhances activities such as bathing and dressing by
themselves, picking up their grandchildren, improving
their skills in golf and tennis, and more.
4.
Lowers blood pressure
Research has shown a possible link
between adjustments of the neck and the lowering of
blood pressure. The study showed a decrease in patient’s
blood pressure with chiropractic adjustments alone
equivalent to results found when patients are on a
combination of 2 different blood pressure medications.
5. Increase Balance and Coordination and Decrease
the Incidence of Falls
The elderly are at increased risk of
falls. This may be the result of a noticeable decline in
proprioception (the body’s ability to tell where it is
in space). Chiropractic adjustments help to
improve proprioception, which may lead to improvements
in balance and coordination and thereby decrease the
number of falls seen in the elderly
6.
Increased Health and Wellbeing
A study by Dr Ian Coulter looking at
chiropractic care and the elderly showed that those
under chiropractic care were: • less likely to suffer
from the aches and pains of arthritis • more likely
to partake in strenuous levels of exercise. • less
likely to be living in a nursing home • less likely
to utilize hospital care • patient satisfaction
surveys report a higher quality of living in the elderly
under chiropractic care than in those not under care
